Tough action on bank charges
urged
A consumer group has published new guidance to help customers continue to reclaim bank charges.
Penaltycharges.co.uk, along with other consumer groups, claim that customers have a strong case against the banks, and they have urged the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to continue legal action.
Stephen Hone, founder of penaltycharges.co.uk, said that the "fight for justice" is now back on track.
Hone's group, plus Money Saving Expert, Consumer Action Group and Legal Beagles have formulated new arguments to challenge, what they claim, is unfairness by the banking groups.
Stephen Hone said: "Being this close to Christmas it seems only right to compare the banks to the infamous 'Scrooge'. With this in mind, the consumer groups - 'the Ghosts of Christmas past, present and future' - have been busy compiling a host of new legal arguments to challenge the legality of 'Scrooge's' charges.
"Millions of people are waiting to get the money back that was unfairly taken from their accounts and we are confident that the addition of these new legal arguments will see consumers' money being returned to them."
The consumer groups informed the Office of Fair Trading of new legal arguments and strategies, and stressed that it is in the public interest that the OFT continues litigation.
Mr Hone continued: "We are also worried about the most vulnerable consumers who are continually having these charges deducted from their benefit payments, for example."
